Tourism

Francisco Brennand, Abelardo da Hora, Corbiniano Lins. And Rinaldo, Marianne Peretti, Roberto Lúcio and Cavani Rosas. Have you ever heard of any of them? At least one of them? They are just one of the most important names of visual arts from Pernambuco. And they are close to public who visit Shopping Recife. The Sculpture Park, which is a kind of an open field museum embedded inside the shopping center area, is one of the most traditional venue of the mall. It assembles 32 sculptures from several materials and styles, signed by renowned artists. Some of them are famous worldwide. And, differently from a common museum, they are daily available, at any time, in a wooded area, almost an oasis in the middle of Boa Viagem district. The best time to visit is at the end of the afternoon. Buy an ice cream, an iced tea, go sightseeing beyond the gates of the multi-storey car park and allow yourself to contemplate. Ah, please don’t forget about the pictures to take with you the memories of the works of art of great names of artistic production from Recife.

To take on your luggage

Which one of you can travel without take at least a souvenir from your trip? Even a refrigerator magnet, a shirt, a doll, whatever; something that materializes the joy and that unique moment from your visit to the city. For many people, Recife is frevo umbrella, bolo de rolo (this one you can buy and take on your luggage, check it out, and Olinda is tapioca from Sé. You can eat it here, too.

In Porto de Galinhas there are the miniatures of the chicken, in many styles and shapes (refrigerator magnet, wooden, fabric), or even those colorful Havaianas flip-flops used to walk around the village or kilometers of sand (and there’s this brand’s store full of options on the upper floor of mall).

It doesn’t matter your references and memories, but to go back home with nothing on your luggage that reminds Recife, or without a gif for the family, is not an option.

A perfect haven to get local handicrafts, specially decorative objects that represent the popular art from the state, is Casa Feliz (ground floor). Full of sculptures made of clay, wood, plaster and resin, the store is a kind of “playground” for handicraft lovers. There, it’s possible to get from wooden saints to pines from master Zezinho, from Tracunhaém, and woodcuts from J.Borges. O Leão de Nuca, classic piece from popular art from the state, is also offered in the place, besides caricatures in resin of Pernambuco icons, such as Ariano Suassuna, Lenine, Luiz Gonzaga and Chico Science. More pernambucana than that? Impossible.
